As part of IRI's advocacy in spreading awareness on how we can all help fight climate change, the company took part in CSA's environmental program dubbed as "CSA EARTH HOUR" held last September 4, 2009 at the CSA Audi-gymnasium. IRI's General Manager, Mr. Lee Echiverri, gave an informative presentation in behalf of the company that focused on the growing problem of electronic waste disposal worldwide.
IRI’s presentation aimed to teach students the proper way of disposing or recycling non-working or obsolete electronic equipments, or now commonly known as "E-Scrap". Because of man’s continuous quest to elevate his way of life, fast-paced advancements in today’s technology has shortened the service life of electronic gadgets such as personal computers (PCs) and cellular phones. Due to this, millions of electronic devices are discarded yearly at an alarming pace.
Representatives from ABS-CBN’s Bantay Kalikasan were likewise present in this event. They encouraged the whole CSA community to support the different environmental projects they are now promoting such as the "Kapit Bisig Para Sa Ilog Pasig", "PISO para sa Ilog Pasig", and the "We RECYCLE" cellular phone drive – which is in partnership with Nokia.
By participating in worthwhile environmental activities such as this, IRI hopes to involve everyone, most especially the youth, in helping preserve our planet. As a final word of encouragement, Mr. Echiverri mentioned ways on how the students, even in their simplest ways, can do their share in nurturing our world’s resources. They were reminded to impart what they have learned to their family and friends and be energetic advocates in protecting Mother Earth.
