IRI Conducts Forum on "STRENGHTENING ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP" Last December 8, 2006, IRI conducted a forum entitled "STRENGHTENING ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP" held at the Laguna 1 conference room of the Bellevue Manila. The event was in connection with IRI's celebration of its five fruitful years of commercial operations. The objective of the forum was to draw out and discuss valid and pressing issues on compliance to environmental laws and regulations and to ventilate these issues to appropriate government agencies. The main participants of the forum were the Pollution Control Officers (PCOs) of the different partner companies of IRI. Ms. Fe K. Gloria, Chair of the Air and Water Management Association - Philippine Chapter (AWMA) was the keynote speaker of the event. She discussed the different programs that the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) implements, particularly those pertaining to the EMB-accredited service providers of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipments (WEEE). She focused on the availability and adequacy of WEEE service providers and their awareness on the different regularatory requirements and environmental laws that they must comply. Other presenters in the forum were Dr. Ed Alabastro, PhD. and Atty. Matilde Jimenez - Fernando, LL.B., Director and Consultant of IRI, respectively (Strengthening the PCO’s Understanding of Basic Concepts and Fundamental Laws) and Mr. Salvador Passe Jr., Supervising Environmental Management Specialist of EMB IV-A (Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes Control Act of 1990 - RA 6969). Overall, the forum went out well and the various concerns and environmental issues that the industry face today were aired-out and were given light in the open forum.
